The closest airport to Annapolis
BWI is about 20 to 25 miles from downtown Annapolis, and the drive stays on Maryland highways the whole way: a few miles of US-50 to I-97, I-97 north toward Glen Burnie, then MD-100 and the airport roads into the terminal loop. It never touches the Capital Beltway, which makes it the most predictable of the three airport drives from Annapolis.
Rush hour still slows I-97 and MD-100, but by minutes rather than the half hours the DC routes can lose.
When to leave for a BWI flight
Airlines generally suggest arriving two hours before a domestic flight and three before an international one. From Annapolis, that means a pickup about two and a half to three hours before a domestic departure, and three and a half to four hours before an international one. Add 15 minutes in a weekday rush.
Catching the first flight of the day? We pick up early too. The rate can be different for early or late-hour pickups, and the booking form shows the price for your time.

Meeting your chauffeur at BWI
BWI offers both: your chauffeur can meet you inside the terminal, or at the curb. For curbside, your chauffeur texts you; after you collect your luggage, walk out to the second curb outside baggage claim and call with the curb number.
Free waiting starts when your flight actually lands: 30 minutes for domestic arrivals and 45 for international. After that, waiting time is charged, and if we can't reach you within 60 minutes the vehicle leaves and the trip counts as a no-show, so keep your phone on and make sure the cell number on the booking is yours.
Naval Academy families and BWI
Because it's the closest airport, BWI is the one a lot of Naval Academy families use for Induction Day in early summer and Commissioning Week in late May. Annapolis is busy those weeks, so book as soon as your flights are set.
A Sprinter van takes up to 10 people and 10 bags, which suits two families sharing the ride or a midshipman's whole cheering section. See event transportation for the rest of the week.
Choosing a vehicle for BWI
For most trips a sedan or the SUV is enough. The Hybrid Luxury Sedan takes 2 travelers with 2 bags, the Luxury Sedan 3 with 3, and the SUV up to 6 with 5 bags. Suitcases ride in the trunk, so if your group has more luggage than that, the Sprinter vans hold up to 10 people and 10 bags.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Bags |
|---|---|---|
| Hybrid Luxury Sedan | Up to 2 | 2 |
| Luxury Sedan | Up to 3 | 3 |
| SUV | Up to 6 | 5 |
| Private Van | Up to 10 | 10 |
| Luxury Van | Up to 10 | 10 |
