Getting into the city

From Annapolis, US-50 runs west past Bowie and Cheverly and crosses into DC as New York Avenue, which leads straight downtown toward Mount Vernon Square and the convention center. For Capitol Hill, the Navy Yard and the Wharf, your chauffeur will usually leave US-50 for DC-295 and the I-695 freeway, which come in along the Anacostia River.

Traffic mostly runs one way at a time: inbound on weekday mornings, outbound on weekday evenings, and worst of all on summer Friday evenings, when Bay Bridge traffic piles onto eastbound US-50. For a 9 a.m. meeting on Capitol Hill, we'd suggest a pickup in Annapolis around 7:30.

One way, round trip or by the hour

A one-way ride or round trip suits a single meeting, a dinner or a train. Stops you list when you book are included in the quote; stops added on the day are charged when you ask for them. Within the DC area, a stop in a different zone is charged as two zone rates, and more than two extra stops can turn the ride into a minimum of 2 hours by sedan or 3 hours by SUV, at hourly rates.

For a day of meetings, booking by the hour is simpler. The car and chauffeur stay with you for the booked time, unplanned stops within that time are included, and your chauffeur is on call between appointments. The hourly rate covers the vehicle, fuel and chauffeur; tolls and parking are extra. Time starts at the scheduled pickup, or when the pickup begins if that's earlier.

Parking in DC, and why people skip it

Street parking downtown and on Capitol Hill is metered and hard to find, many main streets ban parking in rush hours, and garages near the arenas fill on game and concert nights. With a chauffeur you step out at the door of the office, hotel or embassy, and get picked up at the same curb.

On an hourly booking, your chauffeur waits nearby and comes back when you call. If waiting means paying for a garage, that parking is billed on top of the hourly rate, so it helps to tell us where you'll be.

Union Station, embassies, museums and events

We pick up and drop off at Union Station, and we check train times, so a late Amtrak train moves the pickup with it. Coming off the train, walk out through the main doors to the third curb and call your chauffeur.

Other trips people book into the city: Embassy Row along Massachusetts Avenue NW, hotels downtown and in Georgetown, the Kennedy Center, Capital One Arena and Nationals Park. For a show or a game, a round trip or a few hours by the hour means nobody is hunting for a ride home late at night.

For a family day at the Smithsonian museums on the National Mall, or a loop past the monuments with stops along the way, booking by the hour keeps the car close. See city tours for sightseeing days in DC, Baltimore and Annapolis.

Choosing a vehicle for DC

For one to 3 people with briefcases, a sedan is plenty. A team or a family arriving together fits the SUV (up to 6) or a Sprinter van (up to 10), and the stretch limo, quoted on request, suits a night out. The whole vehicle is booked at one rate, with no per-person charge.

Questions people ask

How long is the drive from Annapolis to Washington, DC?

Usually 45 to 75 minutes to downtown, about 30 miles on US-50. Weekday mornings heading in and weekday evenings heading home are the slowest; midday and weekend trips sit near the short end.

Should I book one way or by the hour for meetings in DC?

One way, or a round trip, is best for a single meeting with known times. For several meetings or an open-ended day, book by the hour: your chauffeur is on call, and unplanned stops within your booked time are included. Hourly rates cover the vehicle, fuel and chauffeur, with tolls and parking extra.

Do you pick up at Union Station?

Yes, and we check train times. After you exit through the main doors, walk to the third curb and call your chauffeur. Put your own cell number on the booking so your chauffeur can reach you.

Can you take us to a game or a show in DC and bring us home?

Yes. Book a round trip with your return time, or book by the hour so the car waits for you. The vehicle is booked as a whole, so there's no per-person charge.

Do you also drive from DC to Annapolis?

Yes. We pick up anywhere in the city, including hotels, offices and Union Station, for rides to Annapolis and the rest of Anne Arundel County. See areas we serve for the towns we cover.
